In the fall of 2018 a group of four GSB students competing at the Lazaridis Business School in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. Maddie Stoops, Olivia Machanic, Cam Weston, and Griffin Shaw had never competed as a team before and didn’t know their solution was going to bear fruit at the international case competition. Their case required an analysis of financial technology companies and their impact on traditional banking. UVM’s team was so strong in their solution that they place second overall in the competition, our highest podium finish to date.
Upon hearing of their success and the solution they crafted, Mascoma Bank CEO, Clay Adams, and his senior leadership team came to GSB from White River Junction to meet with the team and hear their presentation. An engaging conversation ensued between our team and Mascoma’s team that opened everyone’s eyes to new possibilities for the bank’s current and future customers.
